What is the difference between Pickleball and Paddleball?

While they look similar, the equipment and court rules differ:

  • Pickleball: Uses a perforated hollow plastic ball (like a wiffle ball) and a flat paddle. The game emphasizes placement and patience.

  • Paddleball: Uses a pressurized rubber ball (similar to a tennis/squash ball) and a solid or perforated paddle. It is generally faster-paced.

  • Pickleball Paddles: Have a flat, untextured face with no holes. They are typically square/rectangular and made of wood, composite, or graphite.

  • Paddleball Paddles: Are usually oval/round and often have small holes drilled into them to reduce air resistance for faster swing speeds.

  • Pickleball Court: Features a net (34 inches high at the center) and a specific non-volley zone called the “Kitchen” (7 ft from the net).

  • Paddleball Court: Can be played with or without a net depending on the variant (One-Wall vs. Four-Wall), and does not feature a “Kitchen” zone.
